Community Day: When we are together, we are resilient
This was shared by Victor Ndonnang, Senior Manager, Community Engagement,Africa during Community Day event hosted by GS Kibungo at Kibungo Internet Access Center on 6th June 2024.
In his remarks, Victor commended volunteering spirit of all ISOC members across the globe and emphasised how Kibungo Internet Access Center is enabling communication and education opportunities for GS Kibungo community by providing students and teachers with access to computers, Internet and digital literacy training they can use in their learning processes.
Emmanuel Mfitumukiza, Chairperson of the Internet Society Rwanda Chapter highlighted the chapter’s key achievements in Bugesera district which includes; establishment of 2 centers equipped with 48 computers, providing digital literacy training to 900 people where half of them are teachers, engaging more than 5200 in the safer Internet Campaigns to promote responsible use of the Internet.
He emphasised the mission of the Internet Society and noted that the chapter will continue to work with the government to promote inclusive technology-based education for all especially in rural communities.
Jacques Gashumba,Director of Education in Bugesera district commended the work that have been achieved through the partnership between Internet Society and Bugesera district.
He said ” I want to thank the Internet Society for their support since when they started working with GS Nyirarukobwa, followed by EP Kayovu , continued with GS Butereri and GS Kibungo, we recorded good impact in reporting, teaching and learning processes and students’ performance. This clearly shows that really the Internet is a tool to improve quality of education”.
During this event, outstanding chapter members, Safer Internet Club, teacher and Partner school received certificate of recognition for their outstanding contribution to the vision and mission of the Internet Society.
Every year, Internet Society organises Regional Community Day to celebrate Internet Society members and everything they’ve accomplished. It also provides opportunity to discuss ways to continue protecting the Internet so that it remains a force for good for everyone.
