Digital Literacy Training for Rural Youth in Kayonza District
In partnership with Relief and Development Support Organisation (RDSO),ISOC Rwanda Concluded a 5-days training for rural youth of Kayonza district.
Rural communities face significant challenges in accessing digital literacy training opportunities, limiting the ability of rural youth to acquire essential digital skills needed for success in the digital age. Despite the increasing importance of digital literacy in education, employment, and daily life, many rural youth lack access to quality digital literacy programs tailored to their needs and contexts.
Limited access to technology infrastructure, including internet connectivity and computing devices, exacerbates the digital divide, leaving rural youth at a distinct disadvantage compared to their urban counterparts. Additionally, socio-economic factors such as poverty, inadequate educational resources, and lack of awareness further hinder rural youth’s ability to acquire digital skills and participate fully in the digital economy.
As a result, rural youth face barriers to accessing educational opportunities, employment prospects, and civic engagement, perpetuating cycles of poverty and social exclusion in rural communities. Without adequate digital literacy training, rural youth are at risk of being left behind in an increasingly digital world, widening existing disparities and hindering socio-economic development in rural areas.
To address the digital literacy gap among rural youth, ISOC Rwanda designed a comprehensive Digital Literacy program that address unique challenges and needs of rural communities.
This program aims to empower rural youth aged 16-30 with the skills and confidence needed to navigate the digital landscape, pursue educational and employment opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and society at large.
